It has been stated that the GPT is the fastest growing and the most exciting professional theater in the Midwest. Over 14,000 people each year enjoy the labors of our company- professional actors, directors, designers, and technicians from across the country who take up residence in Abilene, KS to bring our patrons professional caliber plays and musicals.
Celebrating its 15th year of live theatre, the Great Plains Theatre operates in agreement and contract with Actors' Equity, the union of professional stage actors and stagemanagers. The theatre was started in 1995 by two New York actors interested in bringing theatre to a small, appreciative community. Abilene, KS, home of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, is a welcoming town filled with generous residents and a supportive community. The year-round theatre is housed in the historic Presbyterian Church built in 1886.
