Mystery At The Gala

A Letter from our Board President

We at the Great Plains Theatre (GPT) want to recognize you for being a part of our organization’s fabric over the years. We can’t thank you enough for your support as a donor, patron, or volunteer at some point in the past twenty-five years. During that time, there have been thousands of people that have attended performances, purchased season tickets, volunteered in some capacity, and provided in-kind and cash donations. All of those have allowed GPT to entertain you, provide education for the youth in various programs, and to bring actors from all across the country to grace our stage. The actors do realize that without you, our valued partners, there would not be a place in Abilene for them to perform. The compliments that we hear about Abilene and the surrounding area are because of you. We need to do a better job of sharing those compliments with you, and we will.

We would love to tell you that our ticket sales, grants received and advertising revenue cover our costs, yet they don't. A non-profit organization such as GPT does depend on donations - of every size.  We would be honored to tell you how the theater is doing and what plans are in store for the year of

2020. The staff and board of directors are excited. We would like to share that excitement with you.  As this year comes to a close, if you would like to make a donation let us know, we will be honored to speak with you.

For those of you that would like to donate to something specific, clear your calendar for January 18, 2020!  As the accompanying flier says, there will be a dinner and murder-mystery event at the theatre. The cost is $50 per person - that includes the meal and the entertainment. See the flier for the details and call the box office for reservations. Be quick as there are limited seats. If we run out of seats, let me know. I will let you sit in my chair.

At this event there will be a silent auction. This will not be for items that you might want, but for items the theater wants! Yes, you could bid for the privilege of sponsoring "The Music Man" (my favorite show) or any other show for the season. You might decide to underwrite the costumes for a show. You might also bid on purchasing a case of paper that we use to print programs.  Another item on the list is to sponsor a selected actor/actress in upcoming shows. Imagine being the sponsor for Sandy or Danny in Grease!  There is no doubt a photo opportunity for your family and Sandy or Danny would be on the horizon - and quite likely some other perks to go with that! The lucky group that sponsors the barbershop quartet in "The Music Man" might even have the chance to be serenaded. The theatre also needs some equipment and lights. We would be glad to put your name on a piece of equipment. There will be many items to bid on, with a range in value from $30 on up. Don't feel that you have to do this alone. Get together with some friends and go together to bid on some of the higher priced items! See our website for full details on items that will be in the auction.

Anything that you can provide, we appreciate. We would love to see you at the murder-mystery dinner and would encourage you to take advantage of the items in the silent auction.

Looking forward to seeing you on January 18th!
