The Great Plains Theatre was established in 1995 as a 501-C3 non-profit year-round professional theatre. Through the years, GPT developed a flourishing education program for area youth and added a cinema, providing a needed service for the community of Abilene. As Abilene grows and evolves so too does Great Plains Theatre by adding diverse opportunities for entertainment. From comedians and magicians to chart topping musicians and Pulitzer winning Broadway hits, Great Plains Theatre has something for everyone.

COVID-19 UPDATES

Safety protocols mandated by the Dickinson County Health Officials, State of Kansas, and the CDC will be followed including mask requirement, social distanced seating, and temperature checks and all of the following points listed below to ensure safety for all during this time. Please call our office for more details and information. Even with everchanging regulations, we promise to continue safety and comfortability for all while creating art, telling stories, and getting back to what we love and cherish - live theatre.

Safety Protocols and Procedures

  •  Social Distancing – Please keep social distancing rules of 6 feet apart at all times inside the building. Until further notice or with approval, please remain distanced from others.

  • Physical Touch – It is recommended that you limit all physical touch of the skin between parties. After physical touch, be sure to use hand sanitizer or wash your hands for 20 seconds.

  • Washing hands – All hands must be washed thoroughly for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water at least every hour. This is to keep germs and spread to a minimum.

  • Hand Sanitizer – We require you to have access to hand sanitizer at all times. It will be readily within range to access it throughout the facilities. Use hand sanitizer as much as needed when adhering to social distancing and physical touch regulations.

  • Face coverings – In accordance with all posted ordinances, FACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES. Actors, production staff, volunteers, patrons, staff, and anyone who may enter the theatre must be wearing a face mask at all times or they will be asked to leave immediately. Face coverings are not for the individual wearing them, but for others around us. Instructions for Face coverings: Wash your hands before putting on a face covering. Remove your face covering using the straps to avoid touching the part that protects your face. Wash cloth face coverings after each use, and wear other masks only according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Temperature screening – Please be aware of your current health state. GPT will be screening every person that enters the building at the front door of the lobby. Anyone with a temperature higher than 100.4 degrees F will be asked to leave with full refund. You will also be asked a series of approved questions to evaluate your current health and any possible exposure.

  • Capacity - Theatre capacity and building capacity will be limited to follow all state and local ordinances. Currently, GPT is following the guidelines regulated of less than 30% capacity in the building.

  • Self-Isolation - Actors and staff are required to self isolate when not in the workplace or getting essentials to live.

  • Testing - All actors, staff, and production team members will be expected to test NEGATIVE for COVID-19. No exceptions.

  • Face touching – All should avoid touching your own face, nose, mouth, eyes, etc. If you must, please use hand sanitizer or wash your hands immediately before and after.

  • Cough and Sneeze Etiquette - All should cover their cough or sneeze with a tissue, or an elbow or shoulder if no tissue is available, followed by thorough handwashing/hand sanitizer (this includes while wearing a face covering).

  • Sanitization – Every surface in GPT's facilities is disinfected after each use. Disinfectant spray is used on all surfaces (even those not directly touched), as well as all parts the theatre that may be touched by an individual (handles, switches, handrails, chairs, doors, props, set pieces, etc.). Disinfectant and cleaning supplies are provided if anyone should need them.

  • Emergencies – In any emergency, immediately contact the health officials in Dickinson County or at GPT. In any circumstance, use your common sense and do the next right thing. Proper safety etiquette is required by all. Safety and comfortability are the LARGEST priority in our workplace. Any questions and concerns should be addressed. Make smart, positive, and healthy choices keeping yourself and all surrounding you in mind.
